Significant change to Naymz.

In an effort to improve the RepScore system, we have made a significant change to Naymz.

From now on, members of your Reputation Network may assess your reputation and you may assess theirs. Just visit your Reputation Network page to edit assessments at any time. A couple more points:

Reputation assessments are optional and your answers are anonymous
The point value of an assessment is based on the RepScore of the assessor and their answers
Contacts who do not provide assessments will have no affect on your RepScore
You can still achieve a great baseline RepScore with the Profile Completeness and Identity Verification portions of the score

Again, your reputation is not just what you say about yourself, but also what others are willing to say that about you. With Reputation Assessments we hope we have made it easier for you to gather this feedback from your Reputation Network.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve the RepScore system and other aspects of the Naymz product. Your feedback is always appreciated!

Naymz to Partner with Trufina for Identity Verification

Managing your online reputation just got much easier with the launch of identity verification through Trufina.

Trufina is a fantastic way to verify and share your online identity with others. Our partnership is intended to give Naymz users the ability to access and utilize Trufina’s verification services in a seamless manner. When you get verified through Trufina, you can pull back verified identity information into your Naymz accounts via the Trufina API. Also, once you complete your verification, you can post a verified shield to your Naymz profile. Most importantly, we are giving you 50 RepScore points if you go through the verification process.

Verification is free for Naymz Premium Members and $4.95 for Naymz Basic members.

There are a few things happening with Naymz that you should know about:

RepScore Perks

You may already know that we have been giving Google Premium Placements to users who maintain a RepScore Level of 5 or better. Now on the about RepScore page, we provide a table of Levels, Points, and Perks. Later this week RepScore Perks will change to the following:
- Level 10 - Premium Visit Reports
- Level 9 - Google Premium Placement
Also, there is now a RepScore tab in your Navigation whenever you are logged in. That page will tell you what steps you can take to earn more RepScore points. Spend a few minutes in the next day or two to boost your RepScore Level to 9 or 10 to earn these great Perks. Of course our Premium Subscribers get these features and more regardless of RepScore Level.
Contact Networking

Invite your Contacts to connect with you on Naymz and we’ll:
- Keep you posted on their latest profile and web activity.
- Allow them to leave comments on your profile.
- Allow you to quickly broadcast job opportunities or questions to your network.
Your contact network is private except that visitors to your profile can see which contacts they have in common with you. Naymz has an Open Networking model. Any Naymz user can invite you to be a Contact directly from your profile. If you receive invitations or messages that appear to be SPAM, please mark the message as SPAM in your inbox. Spammers will be penalized and may have their profiles removed.

Told You So

Think your online past can’t come back to haunt you? Think again. Per TechDirt (hat tip to John Battelle), “Judges Say Google Background Checks Are Okay.”

“One federal employee who got fired for misusing government property alleged that a Google search by an official as part of the investigation into his thefts violated his “right to fundamental fairness”. A three-judge panel disagreed, rejecting the claim that the search, which turned up information about two previous times the guy had been removed from a job, affected the decision to fire him.”

Yes, your employers are using search engines to dig up digital dirt on their employees. And apparently this is a-ok to do according to a Federal Court. Don’t you think it’s time to control your online identity?

Getting Vertical - People Search

Our comrade over at ClaimID, Fred Stutzman, posted a great POV piece in regards to the recent media coverage people search has received this week.

Search is undoubtedly becoming vertical, and has been moving in that direction over the past few years. There have long been shopping vertical sites. MySimon, NexTag, and the now defunct Froogle (now named Google Products) come to mind. The travel industry set the standard for vertical search with sites like SideStep, Mobissimo, FareChase (now owned by Yahoo) and Kayak. During my tenure at Orbitz, I became very familiar with the products as I managed the relationships between these engines and the inclusion of Orbitz inventory in them. The next wave of vertical search sites came in the form of job search engines like Indeed.com and SimplyHired.

Google and Yahoo are no strangers to “verticalization”. Blog search, image search, video search, news search. Google is even testing a new layout where these options are extremely integrated with the search results page. There is also the practice of “vertical creep”. Type in “Chicago to New York” in Google and you will see what I mean.

And let’s not forget about Google Base, the big G’s attempt to make everything from recipes to cars vertical. It has SO much potential to revolutionize seach and put a lot of meta-search type companies out of business. However, Google has yet to really build those products out and has not gotten much traction in terms of usage.

So, here comes people search. It’s nothing entirely new as sites like ZoomInfo have been at it for some time in terms of attempting to organize public professional data and make them findable. However, the evolution of social media has opened up a huge, gaping hole. More and more people are using sites like MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, and blogs to define and promote their individuality. In its current state, this data is incredibly fragmented and poorly organized. There are a number of companies like us who are all taking unique approaches in trying to solve the problem of making identity search easy, accurate, fun, and last-but-not-least self-sustaining as a business model. It’s no small feat.

We are so excited to be a part of this evolving online identity space. We are not quite sure exactly where it’s going to go, but look forward to the ride and plan on doing our best to influence the outcome by improving the model. We have some things planned this year that should continue to move us in the right direction and we hope change the game. Stay tuned.

MySpace Strikes Again – College Student Denied Degree

According to CNN, a Millersville University female was taken away a right to a teaching degree because of a photo found on her MySpace page.

I usually don’t side with students who don’t use their heads when posting to social networking sites, but this ruling is a little harsh considering the content.

“The photo, taken at a 2005 Halloween party, shows Snyder wearing a pirate hat while drinking from a plastic “Mr. Goodbar” cup. It was posted on her own MySpace site.”

The student has filed a lawsuit against the school. Here are some more juicy tidbits over at the Smoking Gun.

Regardless of the outcome, this shows you can never be too careful about what you and others place on the transparent world of MySpace and other social media outlets.

Naymz Rep Monitor is a collection of useful sources that will help you safe guard your reputation by monitoring and displaying the latest blog posts, news articles, or other web sites which contain your name and other personal information about yourself. If the information about you is positive and accurate, add it to your Naymz profile. If it’s incorrect or harmful to your reputation, take action. Check out our Guide to Online Reputation Management for some great ways to protect your online identity.

You can access your personal Reputation Monitor by logging-into your account and clicking on the view button next to “Reputation Monitor” on your account home page. We hope to add some other great features to Reputation Monitor such as instant alerts via e-mail in the near future.

Web 2.0: Return of the dot-com Chicago Style

Howard Wolinsky of the Sun-Times ran a great piece yesterday about the emergence of Web 2.0 companies here in our own backyard, sweet home Chicago. Thanks to Howard for including us in his story. There are some great ideas brewing here, and we are all looking to continue to blaze the trail that home grown online companies like Orbitz, FeedBurner, 37Signals, and others have set forth for us.

With our recent bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Hollywood’s new found love for filming in Chicago, the Baby Bulls sweep of the Miami Heat, and all these great internet start-ups, Chicago is the place to be!

Speaking of Orbitz, it’s good to see a few Orbitz alum involved in the start-ups featured here like our friend Blagica Stefanovski at CondoPerks.com and Leon Chism, Kevin Lilly, Andy Ayers, and Kyle Bolstad (thanks for the update, Kevin!) at Viewpoints.com.

My Recent Web Activity

Have a blog, photos, or news articles you want to pull into and aggregate on your Naymz profile? No sweat. Just provide us the RSS feed for the content you want to appear and we’ll do the rest. You can customize what you want to show in your recent web activity as well as how many results you want to appear.

Subscribe and Bookmark

If you have your “recent web activity” activated on your page, your friends and colleagues can now subscribe to your feed to keep up with what’s happening in your world. We also added a bookmark button in case anybody wants to add your profile page to their favorites.

If a Tree Falls in the Woods…

Let me blow the dust off this thing! Yes, our blog has been dormant for, well, just about the entire year so far. We broke the number one cardinal rule for blogging, “don’t stop blogging”. I know we worked to gain a few subscribers and regular readers over the last half of 2006. I assume just about all of you have deleted our feed or removed us from your bookmarks. I can hear the echoes in here already.

We are proud of what we have achieved in the first 10 months since we launched. We have received lots of positive feedback, thousands of sign-ups, some really great media coverage, some really awesome letters of appreciation from users who have gotten great use from Naymz. It’s been such a neat experience for all of us and the light at the end of the tunnel gets a little brighter every day. This online identity space is getting more attention each day and we are glad to be a part of it.

We have actually rolled out some pretty cool features since I last posted an update, and we have lots more brewing. I’ll send a recap of those new features later today.

For those of you reading this, thanks for sticking around. For those of you who gave up, we’ll do our best to earn back that slot in your feedreader.

Establish procedures to respond to all passenger complaints within 24 hours and with appropriate resolution within 2 weeks.
Notify passengers within ten minutes of a delay of known diversions, delays and cancellations via airport overhead announcement, on aircraft announcement, and posting on airport television monitors.

Establish procedures for returning passengers to terminal gate when delays occur so that no plane sits on the tarmac for longer than three hours without connecting to a gate.
Provide for the essential needs of passengers during air- or ground-based delays of longer than 3 hours, including food, water, sanitary facilities, and access to medical attention.
Provide for the needs of disabled, elderly and special needs passengers by establishing procedures for assisting with the moving and retrieving of baggage, and the moving of passengers from one area of airport to another at all times by airline personnel.
Publish and update monthly on the company’s public web site a list of chronically delayed flights, meaning those flight delayed thirty minutes or more, at least forty percent of the time, during a single month.

Compensate “bumped” passengers or passengers delayed due to flight cancellations or postponements of over 12 hours by refund of 150% of ticket price
The formal implementation of a Passenger Review Committee, made up of non-airline executives and employees but rather passengers and consumers - that would have the formal ability to review and investigate complaints.

Make lowest fare information, schedules and itineraries, cancellation policies and frequent flyer program requirements available in an easily accessed location and updated in real-time.
Ensure that baggage is handled without delay or injury; if baggage is lost or misplaced, the airline shall notify customer of baggage status within 12 hours and provide compensation equal to current market value of baggage and its contents.
Require that these rights apply equally to all airlines code-share partners, including international partners.
